Jezebel And Paedo-Cannibalism

In Revelation 2:18-29, the Lord Jesus addresses the church in Thyatira. In the passage, He speaks these words:

And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

From the above, I want to focus solely on Jezebel’s role in leading people into eating things sacrificed unto idols. Please bear with me while I dig into the history and use some Scriptures to make my case and prove the point.

The first thing to see here is that “Jezebel” (a symbolic name used by the Lord to refer to a type of woman) taught members of this church to eat things sacrificed unto idols. What does this mean? First and foremost, it’s a concept seen in the Old Testament. Anyone familiar with Torah commandments from Leviticus knows that Israel was required to make animal sacrifices to God, whether as an act of atonement, as a peace or thanksgiving offering, and etc. During the sacrifice process, certain parts of the animal were offered to God (e.g. the fat, the caul, the innards), and other parts were to be kept as food, especially for the priests. These parts of the animal would then, after the animal had been sacrificed, be eaten according to Levitical protocol as ordered by God.

The problem, of course, is that, whenever Israel fell into idolatry, they would still maintain their sacrificial system, only they’d offer to the false gods. An example of this is found in Exodus 32, where Aaron, the brother of Moses, made gods of gold, i.e. the golden calf, and led the people in sacrifice.

From this, we come to realize that Jezebel gets people to commit idolatry, especially through sacrificial worship. People in the church, who don’t recognize her for what she is, thinks of her as she portrays herself to be: a prophetess. A prophet is a spokesperson for God, a veritable “mouthpiece”. And so, when a Jezebel, with a “Thus saith the Lord” on her lips, attempts to speak into the life of another saint, if they are not careful, or don’t realize she is not speaking on God’s behalf, they are apt to believe she really is what she claims: God’s spokesperson.

And of course, it’s assumed that all prophets and/or prophetess’ are by nature, more spiritual than others (Even though it’s not necessarily true; see 1 Kings 13:11-32). And with such an assumption, it’s easy to give in and submit to someone who seems more spiritual, even to one’s own detriment.

And when submission is given, the first thing that happens is fornication. Not necessarily physical acts of sexual perversion, but mostly in a figurative way, which is idolatry (See, for example, Revelation 17:1-3). The idol, in this instance, is Jezebel herself, and the sacrifices made, are made unto her. She is perceived to be the great power of God (just like Simon Magus, Acts 8), and as such, is worshiped, meaning her word and instruction are heeded above the word of the Lord and the instruction of God’s Spirit.

But what are the so-called “things” sacrificed? I am going to make a case, that, if Biblically accurate, will shock you.

Let’s summarize so far:

– Jezebel, pretending to be the mouthpiece of God, tricks people into worshiping her (after all, people, especially new converts, are impressed by her apparent spirituality and closeness to the Lord, which she constantly tells others to notice and respect).

– Once Jezebel has a following, she begins to teach her flock.

– The first thing she teaches, by example and innuendo, if not in word, is to think of her as the great power of God. This is sorcery, just like Simon Magus.

– When her disciples fall in line, and begin to think of her this way, they enter into a relationship with her which could be called or described as spiritual fornication, i.e. the figurative meaning of the word, which is idolatry.

– As a de facto idol operating in the lives of others, Jezebel now teaches her people how to worship her, namely through sacrifice. And, in order to keep their idol happy (just like someone likes to please the One True God), people enthralled to her obey and pay the cost of her worship.

Now, with our summary in order, it’s time to answer the question: what are the “things” people sacrifice to Jezebel?

To answer, let’s go to another verse and get some context: Revelation 2:14.

14. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Notice that here, the church in Pergamos had a different, albeit closely related problem. But here, the issue was the doctrine of “Balaam” in their midst. This doctrine in action however, led to much the same evil as Jezebel in Thyatira, chiefly (for our purposes) eating things sacrificed to idols.

So, if we’re at all going to understand what “Jezebel” was doing in Thyatira, we first need to know what the “doctrine of Balaam” was accomplishing in Pergamos. And for that, we have to go back to the OT, to when the real, literal Balaam first shows himself on the scene.

Numbers 22:1-6,

And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho. And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel. And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me: Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

Balaam is a pagan prophet for hire, who, having a measure of real (but not true) spirituality, has built for himself a reputation in the region. Balak entrusts himself to Balaam, hoping Balaam can provide a curse against Israel, one sufficient to bring God’s nation to ruin. There is a long version of all this in the succeeding chapters, which is worthy of study. But for our purposes, just know that Balaam doesn’t curse Israel. Rather, he blesses them. This infuriates Balak to no end. But then, Balaam, still willing to provide his spiritual services to Balak, devises a plan, i.e. the stumblingblock mentioned by the Lord in Revelation 2. The stumblingblock is this: Baal Peor.

Numbers 25:1-3,

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

Notice that Israel begin to commit whoredoms, or fornication, of the real, physical kind, with the daughters of Moab, i.e. with Balak’s people. Soon after, Israel begins offering sacrifices to Moab’s gods, even eating whatever it was they sacrificed.

An important question, one necessary to understand our topic, comes up. Which god did the Moabites worship? Numbers 21:29, 1 Kings 11:7 and 33, Jeremiah 48:13 and 46 all point to Chemosh. In fact, in 1 Kings 11:7 and 33, Chemosh is called both the abomination and god of Moab, respectively. But what made Chemosh so abominable to God, apart from being an idol?

It’s because humans were sacrificed to Chemosh, especially children. In 2 Kings 3:27, the king of Moab, Mesha, sacrificed his son as a burnt offering in the hopes of gainging Chemosh’s favor, and so, win in battle against Israel. This is proven historically and archaeologically by the Moabite Stone, i.e. that Mesha worshiped Chemosh, and so, any sacrifice he made back then, including his own son, would have been to Chemosh (On the stone Mesha even went as far as saying Chemosh was his father).

So, what’s the big deal? Well, let’s again summarize:

– Chemosh is the abomination or false god of the Moabites.

– Human sacrifice, especially of children, was the common form of worship in Moab.

– At Baal Peor, Israel fell into idolatry and began to worship the god of the Moabites, i.e. Chemosh.

– This worship, which included human sacrifice, was the stumblingblock cast before Israel by Balaam, as mentioned by the Lord in Revelation 2.

Almost there.

Now, let’s bring it all together.

Jezebel teaches people to sacrifice to her as a form of idolatry/fornication. This idolatry requires the eating of those things which were sacrificed. Balaam also teaches people to do the same. We know from Numbers 25, that the idol in question is Chemosh. Burnt offerings, which included human sacrifice, especially that of children, was the typical form of worship required by this false god.

Here’s the kicker:

What was required of the Levitical priesthood after they sacrificed unto God? To eat the leftover parts of the sacrificed animal.

So, what do you suppose Israel did at Baal Peor, after sacrificing humans, especially children?

They ate the leftovers. I can prove it.

Baal Peor is a major event in the Bible. In consequence, God had Moses behead everyone who fell into Chemosh worship, and hang their dead bodies to rot in the sun. God also sent a plague in the camp that killed 24,000 people (Numbers 25:9). 1,000 of them were beheaded by Moses and 23,000 were killed by God Himself (1 Corinthians 10:8).

Later, in Deuteronomy 4:3, Baal Peor is again mentioned, specifically how God destroyed His own people for what they did there. Then, centuries later, in Hoshea 9:10, God gives us another summary of what happened there. This time He calls it shame and abomination.

Even a psalmist gets in on the commentary (again, centuries after the fact). In Psalm 106:28, we read this:

28. They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor…

So, I ask you, what was so bad about Baal Peor, that God responded in such a furious wrath, so as to kill thousands of people on the spot? What about it was so bad as to still be mentioned hundreds of years later by both a prophet and a psalmist? I mean, Israel had committed idolatry both before and after Baal Peor. But even the Lord Jesus indirectly refers to Baal Peor when mentioning Balaam (close to 1,400 years after the fact). So, it must be a uniquely big deal. A kind of evil not typical to the Bible narrative. A kind of evil even worse than simply human sacrifice, even of children, for that happened, too. So what is it?

Well, if you haven’t connected the dots yet, see the rest of Psalm 106:28 for the answer.

28. …and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

Israel ate the corpses of their own sacrificed children! They committed Paedo-Cannibalism.

This is what happens in the church when a Jezebel shows up and goes unchecked. The “things” sacrificed to Jezebel are children, i.e. new converts, or babes in Christ. When a church suffers a Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce God’s servants, that church, in effect, is spiritually offering it’s babies to Jezebel as an act of worship. Jezebel, in turn, once they are sufficiently sacrificed (to her, no less), turns and “eats” them, i.e. devours them spiritually until nothing but a husk of faith remains.

But notice the Lord’s recompense for Jezebel’s evil: “I will kill her children with death”.

We reap what we sow. When Jezebel is allowed free reign, and, as a predator, goes after and has new converts sacrificed unto herself, she will experience the same from the Lord. This may be literal; it could be figurative. But what the Lord promises, He will do (See Isaiah 46:11). He returns the favor and goes after her kids.

I’m telling you, I have seen it. I have seen Jezebels pounce on new converts and spiritually eat them up. And I have watched Jezebels have their family, including and especially their children, tore up from the floor up, by the Lord. Even the people any of these Jezebel’s occasionally “won” suffered spiritual crib death before the Lord’s anger. They were completely left unfruitful in all they did, because deep down, they were never doing it unto the Lord, only unto themselves.

God is not mocked. We had better wake up. Jezebel is killing God’s kids and eating up the heritage of the Lord in churches all over the place, and too many of us, like some of the Thyatirans, sit back and do nothing. The Lord is against any saint who turns a blind eye. Mother Jerusalem is having her children snatched right out from underneath her skirts while these sicko spiritual predators have them boiled, burnt, and devoured, and we just keep on moving in a daze and wonder whatever happened to so and so that used to come to church? Where are they?

I will tell you what happened and I will tell you where they are. They were consumed by a predator and their bones are buried in Jezebel’s backyard. And Jezebel, that False-Prophesying Paedo-Cannibal, just keeps on eating, making herself fat.

We must do better and we must do more. This pernicious evil has got to stop. Metaphorically speaking, Jezebel needs to be thrown down and trampled underfoot (2 Kings 9:33).

And if you think that’s too hard or unrighteous, just remember what the Son of God said He was going to do to her.

  1. Can a Jezebel be a male? Or only a female? This is scary : /

  2. Jezebel, traditionally speaking, will be female. However, for such a type of woman to operate in a local assembly, there must be something else present within the male leadership; a counterpart if you will, to her.

This is Ahab, who was the original Jezebel’s husband and king, who stood idly by as she wreaked havoc over the nation of Israel. So, for a NT Jezebel to be at work, the leadership of a church must kow-tow to her like Ahab of old.
